Christmas Traditions | Blogmas Day 15

I'm late again, but I have an excuse. I completed all of my summative essays last night and celebrated with a few too many drinks after our christmas meal. I feel like I deserved it though. I still want to write a post today so here it is, better late than never!

Everyone has different traditions when it comes to christmas and I love how personal this time of year is. There's a lot of things we do at christmas time but I feel that it's important to not have too strict expectation of the day. I love being lazy and just seeing where the day goes.

Christmas eve for us doesn't have many traditions. It tends to be the day where most of the presents are put under the tree and we start prepping the food for the next day. We tend to pop a film on and have a drink, most likely Baileys! Sometimes we may go to our local pub to catch up with some friends. Christmas eve has definitely evolved from what was once a very excitement filled evening of putting a mince pie out and not being able to sleep due to pure eagerness for the next morning. However, now they are more relaxed and used for enjoying time together without any concerns about work.

Christmas day begins with the stockings (no I will never be too old for a stocking), this was always my favourite part of christmas as it was so exciting to wake up and feel on your feet the weight of a stuffed stocking! Without fail there would always be a tangerine and chocolate coins in there somewhere. Once everyone is up we gather in the living room and begin with the present giving. I love watching people open presents, it honestly makes me more happy than getting them!

Normally after a little chill time, me and mum will go and check on the ponies while dinner is cooking. When we get back everyone takes a quick trip to the pub to have a chat with our friends in the village, we have a drink or two and enjoy the company of everyone.

We tend to get the food cooking pretty early as we eat christmas dinner around early afternoon, so we try not to get back too late. After dinner everyone tends to admire their gifts while we watch some christmas tv, chat and enjoy having family around.

In the evening is usually the time I would pop down to my dad's for round 2! Not a second dinner obviously but there's always room for more dessert right?

Christmas is so special, I love how much it brings people together. Everyone may have their own traditions but theres always the same sentiments behind the day.

I'm so excited to go home tomorrow, I haven't been back since moving to uni and it's going to be so great seeing all my family and friends and most importantly, my animals! I haven't felt very christmassy in the past few days because of looming deadlines, but now they're done and dusted I am so ready to get fully into the christmas spirit!

I'd love to hear what traditions you have on christmas eve and christmas day!

Love, Beth xo
