Reading Lately

I love to read. I always have and always will.

However I have felt very discontented with books lately and have fallen out of love with the act of reading. I felt like it was more of a chore, as if it was something I felt like I should be doing rather than something I did out of interest; and I think this was largely down to the type of books that I have been reading.

However a few books that I have read and am reading recently have reinforced in me why I found so much enjoyment in reading before and have restored my enthusiasm to read more. These books are:

The Five People You Meet In Heaven, Mitch Albom

The Handmaid's Tale, Margaret Atwood

Lolita, Vladimir Nabokov

I was given Albom's book to read by my mum, who, as someone who can barely make it through a book, read front to back and thoroughly enjoyed it, encouraged me to do the same. And I can honestly say I would recommend it to anyone, and that it is now firmly one of my favourites.

Margaret Atwood was a recommended author in my English A level class, however I only managed to read her works after I finished my course; having done so I wish I had before so that I could have used her instead! This is the book that really dragged me back into reading, the whole ideal of being kept on the outside of a story and desperately wanting to be on the in, wanting to know what will happen next. It's brilliantly told and brilliantly different yet so believable.

And finally, Lolita, a book I have heard about from a distance yet never encountered until now. I have only just begun to read this and therefore do not yet know the story however from what I have read from the book and about it, it is one to be taken with an open mind and appreciation of the author's portrayal, which is by the way brilliant!

So I just wanted to share something a little closer to my personal life, since the change in the blog and this is something that I am very interested in, so I hope it is as enjoyable to read and it was to write.
